What is VBI?
VBI stands for Vietnam Blockchain Innovation, which includes VBI Academy and VBI Lab.
VBI Academy is a research institute specializing in training, researching, and developing blockchain technology.
Vietnam Blockchain Innovation is a blockchain technology forum dedicated to dev&tech technologists. Specifically, in forum, they can share, discuss, dev, deepen and update the latest blockchain techniques. Significantly, the goal of the forum is to gather Vietnamese blockchain technology experts, researchers, and developers. After that, these experts will share and discuss about blockchain topics with the aim that everyone has a basic foundation in the blockchain. And then, people can come together into teams to explore the possibilities of blockchain in different fields. It makes us a strong blockchain human resource.
Currently, VBI Lab has 27 teams with nearly 300 members. In other words, there are quite a lot of domestic and international blockchain researchers, Ph.D., and experienced developers from famous universities such as Cambridge, NUS, Paris, WoU, KAIST, VinUni, SNU, or big companies like Siemens, Rakuten, and Amazon. The potential in Vietnam
Riley Tran, who will lead the NEAR hub in Vietnam, said: “We believe that in the industrial revolution 4.0, Vietnam is an exciting emerging market and has the best growth potential in Southeast Asia. The NEAR Protocol can help tomorrow’s society create blockchain solutions that change the world, and this hub is a crucial step in achieving that.”
NEAR Vietnam is already one of the largest local NEAR communities. In fact, it has over 14,000 members on NEAR Vietnam’s Telegram. Moreover, there are more than 18 million active NEAR wallets. Furthermore, Vietnam is in the top two, accounting for 20% of the total number of NEAR wallets. There are already 800 contracts from Vietnam, which deploy on NEAR mainnet, with a much higher number of contracts deploying on testnet.
Vietnam is actively promoting digital transformation and development. It ranks 5th out of 154 countries in the Global Cryptocurrency Acceptance Index. It also tops global rankings when it comes to the percentage of crypto ownership, with one in five owning crypto.
Blockchain developer communities will be built in major cities such as Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh. Every month, 40-60 developers take part in the training through the courses. There will also be international blockchain hackathons with investment funds held twice a year to enter and attract developers.
In terms of education, more than 1500 developers have already registered for the five NEAR Protocol programming courses at the VBI Developer Training. More specially, over 100 people have graduated and subsequently formed more than 22 teams currently building and developing projects on the NEAR ecosystem.
Marieke Flament, CEO of the NEAR Foundation, says: “We are thrilled to see new blockchain developments in Vietnam as many exciting projects continue to emerge from the local ecosystem. This new hub demonstrates an unparalleled opportunity to develop local talent and to provide them with opportunities for further technological and commercial growth.”
